HQA performs an annual assessment of quality in healthcare by medical schemes. The aim of such assessments is to assist decision makers such as trustees, management of medical schemes, providers of healthcare and policymakers to evaluate and improve the quality of care received by members.

HQA is a not for profit company and is endorsed by the South African National Consumer Union, the Board of Healthcare Funders and the Council for Medical Schemes.
